About the initiative
We have a structured protocol to address and respond to emergency situations or states of public calamity, ensuring a rapid and effective response to support employees, partners, and affected communities.
This protocol establishes how to act in emergency situations, ensuring a quick and organized response. It outlines when and how the Crisis Committee should be activated, who makes decisions, and which measures are applied. This includes mapping affected areas and individuals, offering financial and emotional support to employees, mobilizing donations and volunteers, and working with authorities and organizations to support affected communities, including through our logistics network. With these actions, we aim to help mitigate the impacts and speed up recovery.
Support for communities affected by floods in Rio Grande do Sul
This structure allowed us to act in an organized and effective way during the floods that affected Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. During the critical period, operations in the most affected areas were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of employees and logistics partners. Additionally, we made two warehouses available in the region for receiving and sorting donations, enabled solidarity shipments for customers and partners, applied reduced rates for local entrepreneurs, and supported the state’s reconstruction with initiatives like the Pulso Campaign and support for Municipal Funds.
As part of the response, Mercado Libre allocated R$ 1 million to the NGO Ação da Cidadania, a member of the Mercado Libre Solidario program. This initiative ensured immediate assistance to the most affected communities. Mercado Pago users could also contribute from R$ 5 through the Donate Button available in our fintech app. The funds raised were directed to support families in vulnerable situations.
It’s not easy to face such dramatic tragedies as these. But the partnership with Mercado Libre has been essential for us to respond faster and help those who need it most. This joint effort, which has been ongoing for years, is built on trust and purpose.
