Initiative
Personal Finance for Young People
About the initiative
Mercado Pago has revolutionized the personal finance scene in Argentina by introducing a digital account tailored for individuals aged 13 to 17. With approval from a responsible adult, young people can now make payments using QR codes or utilize a prepaid card through their account. Additionally, they have the option to invest their money in a Common Investment Fund, overseen by the financial services ecosystem BIND.
Financial education for Latin American youth
Recognizing that fostering financial education is the key to narrowing social disparities, ensuring responsible utilization of financial services, and empowering young individuals to make informed decisions about their personal finances, Mercado Pago has teamed up with Junior Achievement. Together, they are delivering fundamental financial education concepts to thousands of students aged 16 to 18 in public schools across six countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Uruguay.
The program provides an introduction to financial planning and equips participants with the tools they need to manage their personal finances. Participants learn about the importance of saving for a life project, the instruments of investment and credit, and learn the criteria for using them.
