Emergency Support

About the initiative

We have a structured protocol for addressing and responding to emergencies or states of public calamity, ensuring a rapid and effective response to support employees, partners, and affected communities.
This protocol defines how to act to critical situations, establishes the criteria for convening the Crisis Committee, determines those responsible for decision-making, and describes the measures to be implemented. This includes mapping affected areas and people, offering financial and emotional support to employees, mobilizing donations and volunteers, and working with authorities and organizations to support affected communities, including through our logistics network. Through these actions, we seek to contribute to mitigating impacts and accelerating recovery.
Throughout 2025, this protocol was activated in various situations, including the floods in Bahía Blanca, Argentina. Our response included raising USD 420,000 through the “Donate” button on the Mercado Pago app, earmarked for the recovery of public hospitals and housing. We also donated more than 4,500 essential items in partnership with strategic sellers. Additionally, we waived transaction fees for two months for local businesses operating with Mercado Pago and for Mercado Livre sellers, and we facilitated over 84,000 free shipments from across the country to Bahía Blanca over a two-week period, with priority logistics for essential items.

Support for communities affected by floods in Rio Grande do Sul

In 2024, this policy allowed us to act in an organized and effective way during the floods that affected Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. During the critical period, operations in the most affected areas were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of employees and logistics partners. Additionally, we made two warehouses available in the region for receiving and sorting donations, enabled solidarity shipments for customers and partners, applied reduced rates for local entrepreneurs, and supported the state’s reconstruction with initiatives like the Pulso Campaign and support for Municipal Funds.
As part of the response, Mercado Libre allocated R$ 1 million to the NGO Ação da Cidadania, a member of the Mercado Libre Solidario program. This initiative ensured immediate assistance to the most affected communities. Mercado Pago users could also contribute from R$ 5 through the Donate Button available in our fintech app. The funds raised were directed to support families in vulnerable situations.

It’s not easy to face such dramatic tragedies as these. But the partnership with Mercado Libre has been essential for us to respond faster and help those who need it most. This joint effort, which has been ongoing for years, is built on trust and purpose.
